If you have been around Diablo IV since day one, Season 11 is going to hit you like a different game. It is not just a lazy stat squish, it is a full rebuild of how your character stays alive. The old dance of chasing Armor caps and stacking every random Resistance is gone, replaced by one clear Toughness stat that actually makes sense. That single change already makes gearing feel cleaner, and it makes every drop of Diablo 4 Items more readable at a glance. You cannot just stand there face-tanking while smashing skills any more either. Potions now recharge over time instead of dropping like candy, and Fortify works more like a second health bar that fills back up instead of some busted damage cheat, so you really feel it when you mess up a dodge or ignore a telegraphed hit.

Meaner Monsters, Smarter Fights
You notice the enemy changes almost instantly. Packs do not just sprint toward you in a straight line, then fall over. Elites weave around, pull you out of position, and punish you when you tunnel vision. It feels way more like the game expects you to read the fight, not just rotate cooldowns. The upside is that your time in dungeons actually feels worth it now. Rares and Legendaries roll with four base affixes again, so you look at a yellow on the ground and think, yeah, this might be an upgrade, not instant salvage. That shift alone makes the grind less about mindless clearing and more about hunting that weird combo you have been chasing.

Tempering Without The Heartbreak
The big emotional swing for a lot of players is the new Tempering setup. Before, it was so easy to brick an almost perfect piece with one awful roll and just close the game for the night. Now you pick the Temper you want from a short list, one per item, and you can keep trying till it lands right. No more praying on that last click. You end up thinking more about what your build actually needs instead of what the RNG might give you. People are already doing stuff like keeping slightly weird but high-potential pieces because they know they can tune that one missing affix instead of gambling the whole item away.

Masterworking And Long-Term Progress
Endgame gearing leans hard into this new Masterworking system. Every item has a Quality level you push up, step by step, all the way to 25. Each level nudges your base stats and affixes higher, so even an early good drop can stay with you for a long time if you are willing to invest. The key moment is hitting max Quality and unlocking a Capstone Bonus, which upgrades a normal affix into a Greater Affix with a big spike in power. The clever bit is that you can reroll which affix gets that Greater treatment without wiping the Quality levels you already paid for. That takes a lot of fear out of tinkering with high-end gear and makes late-game progress feel way more deliberate, like you are steering your setup toward a clear goal instead of constantly resetting and praying for diablo 4 gear buy.
